Vetal Suite by Chatchai Puipia

Good news is, Bangkok’s art scene is now booming. With many independent galleries mushrooming and many cultural activities happening, may be it’s time for Chatchai Puipia to come back to this City of Angels, after many years ago he declared his withdrawal from the art world through his imagined funeral.

In Vetal Suite exhibition, Chatchai seemed to reveal a part of his complicated life through a fictional character ‘Vetal’. What I like about this exhibition, apart from the surreal aspect of it, is the interplay between material and immaterial qualities. How would it feel to be surrounded by tangible objects of a fictional person?
