When it comes to art, I like the art that can be perceived in many levels. On the surface it looks pleasing to the eyes, and has hidden messages deep down. And Jakkai’s works are just like that.
At first glance, the new works in his Displaced exhibition are impressive with colorful schemes and children’s drawings. But if you’re a Thai, you will get it right away. It’s all about the so-called ‘problems’ that we don’t want to talk about: the Deep South, the conflicts, and the Rohingyas. But that is really a problem after all?
This is also what I like about art, the ability to speak about the unspeakable through other forms of creations.
‘Displaced’ exhibition by Jakkai Siributr is on view at BACC from 1 April to 13 May.
